Are you feeling like a talentless blob, or are you actually talentless, desperately in need of some extra cash? Don't worry, my friend. Get out of the depressive fairyland that your mindset is in and get something started. You know that nobody will help you unless you show your willingness to learn. Show your willingness to who? To yourself, first!
So let’s think about your future and what you should do now. If you don’t do something, you will never change, you know that, my friend!
Exploring Unconventional Opportunities
Alright, take your time and ask yourself. You’re not totally talentless because any animal has a natural talent for something at least, and you are a human. You gotta find something you can do that others may not be able to so easily. Find something wacky, wild, and downright weird out of yourself. Here are 7 steps that you can take;
Step 1: Put on your explorer hat and leave your "normal" at the door.
You're about to venture into uncharted territories where the rules are made up, and the points don't matter!
Example:
Let's say you've always had a passion for organizing and decluttering. Instead of pursuing a traditional career in organizing homes, you decide to explore the unconventional opportunity of becoming a professional decluttering consultant for digital spaces like people's email inboxes or computer desktops. You embrace the unconventional aspect of helping people declutter their virtual lives.
Step 2: Connect with all sorts of oddballs and outliers.
Who knows, you might find your new best friend in a penguin suit or a llama enthusiast who needs your help selling llama-themed socks!
Example:
You attend a conference on alternative energy sources and strike up conversations with professionals from various industries. You meet someone who is involved in creating eco-friendly art installations, which inspires you to collaborate on an unconventional project that combines renewable energy and artistic expression.
Step 3: Unleash your inner mad scientist.
Mix and match ideas like a fusion chef creating culinary monstrosities. Sure, not every concoction will be a winner, but who cares? Failure is just the prequel to your epic success story.
Example:
You have a knack for blending flavors and love experimenting in the kitchen. You decide to create a line of unusual ice cream flavors like bacon-waffle or sriracha-avocado. By embracing the unconventional combinations, you attract adventurous foodies and gain attention for your unique ice cream creations.
Step 4: Seek inspiration from EVERYWHERE!
Borrow ideas from a cat playing the piano or a sneezing panda. Inspiration knows no boundaries, my friend!
Example:
You're interested in starting an online business selling handmade jewelry, but you're stuck on design ideas. Instead of solely looking at other jewelry designs, you explore sources like architecture, nature, or even abstract art for inspiration. This leads you to create avant-garde jewelry pieces inspired by the geometric shapes found in modern architecture.
Step 5: Embrace the weird and the wonderful.
Tap into your inner superhero - Captain Curiosity! Remember, you're not just thinking outside the box; you've kicked that box to Mars and built a spaceship to follow it!
Example:
You're an aspiring comedian, but traditional stand-up routines aren't your thing. Instead, you decide to create a character who delivers hilarious motivational speeches as a quirky life coach. By embracing the unconventional approach, you develop a unique comedy act that sets you apart from traditional comedians.
This hidden knowledge used by the elites will let you generate wealth and prosperity
Step 6: Hang out with the tech-savvy aliens.
Embrace the internet and the wonders of the digital galaxy. Connect with people from every corner of the planet and start trading ideas like intergalactic spices.
Example:
You're passionate about upcycling and want to turn discarded materials into trendy furniture. Instead of solely relying on local markets, you establish an online presence through social media and e-commerce platforms. You connect with eco-conscious communities worldwide, showcasing your unique creations and attracting customers globally.
Step 7: Find a wise and quirky Yoda.
Seek out mentors who've walked unconventional paths before you. They'll guide you through the cosmic chaos and teach you the ways of the force (or at least how to navigate those unconventional waters).
Example:
You're interested in pursuing a career in virtual reality (VR) gaming but don't know where to start. You seek out a mentor who has worked on unconventional VR projects, and they guide you through the process of developing your own indie VR game. With their quirky insights and expertise, you navigate the world of VR gaming in an unconventional and innovative way.
Now, get out there, and embrace the laughter, the mishaps, and the occasional facepalms. The road less traveled is often filled with the most fantastic surprises.
Turn Your Interest Into Expertise
You know, it is absolutely possible to turn your interest into expertise. Embrace the adventure, have a good laugh along the way, and enjoy every step of your transformation. Here's how you can transform your interest into expertise:
- Embrace your inner learning ninja: Get ready to don your metaphorical learning ninja outfit! Approach your interest with excitement and curiosity, ready to take on new challenges and conquer the realm of knowledge.
- Set goals like a boss: Picture yourself as the boss of your interest. Set clear goals and break them down into bite-sized tasks. It's like creating a quest for yourself, where each accomplishment brings you closer to leveling up your expertise.
- Unleash your learning superpowers: Explore all the resources available to you - books, online courses, YouTube tutorials, and more. You're like a superhero gathering knowledge from every corner of the universe. Embrace your superpowers and absorb information like a knowledge sponge.
- Practice like a pro (with a sprinkle of fun): Practice makes progress, so approach it like a pro, but don't forget to have fun along the way. Find joy in experimenting, trying new things, and seeing your skills grow. Remember, even superheroes had to start somewhere.
- Seek wise mentors and fellow adventurers: Imagine yourself on an epic quest, and wise mentors are there to guide you on your journey. Seek their guidance, learn from their experiences, and connect with fellow adventurers who share your passion. Together, you'll form a mighty fellowship of knowledge.
- Reflect and refine like a Jedi master: Take moments to reflect on your progress, just like a wise Jedi master contemplates the Force. Assess what's working, and what needs improvement, and adjust your path accordingly. Embrace the feedback and suggestions from others as valuable tools in your quest.
- Embrace challenges like a fearless explorer: Embrace challenges like a fearless explorer venturing into uncharted territories. Step out of your comfort zone, take risks, and conquer new frontiers within your interest. It's where the most exciting discoveries and growth happen.
- Share your wisdom like a generous wizard: As you gain expertise, share your wisdom with others like a generous wizard sharing spells. Teach, mentor, and contribute to communities. Spread your knowledge and watch it ripple through the realm, empowering others and solidifying your own mastery.
…But How Can I Actually Do This?
Okay, say, if you have an interest in yoga but do not consider yourself an expert. Then there are several steps you can take to gain knowledge and build expertise in the field:
Step 1: Start by exploring your love for yoga
Begin your yoga journey by simply enjoying the practice. Attend classes, follow online tutorials, or use yoga apps to experiment with different poses and techniques. Embrace the joy of discovering what feels good for your body and mind.
Step 2: Join yoga courses or workshops
Consider joining yoga courses or workshops led by knowledgeable instructors. These opportunities can provide structured learning and guidance, helping you deepen your understanding of yoga and refine your practice. It's a chance to connect with like-minded individuals and grow together.
Step 3: Dive into yoga literature and resources
Immerse yourself in the world of yoga by reading books written by experienced teachers, exploring reputable websites, and following inspiring yoga publications. This will expand your knowledge, offer different perspectives, and ignite your curiosity.
Step 4: Connect with experienced teachers
Seek out experienced yoga teachers who inspire you. Attend their classes and workshops to learn from their wisdom and expertise. Don't hesitate to ask questions and seek their guidance - they are usually more than happy to support your growth.
Step 5: Consider yoga teacher training
If you're passionate about sharing yoga with others, you might want to explore a yoga teacher training program. Look for programs that resonate with your values and interests. This journey can be transformative, providing you with the skills and knowledge to guide others on their yoga path.
Step 6: Reflect and explore
Take time to reflect on your personal experiences with yoga. Keep a journal to capture your thoughts, feelings, and insights. Notice how yoga influences your daily life and well-being. Stay open to exploring different styles and approaches to deepen your understanding.
Step 7: Embrace a lifelong learning mindset
Remember that yoga is - and anything else can be - a lifelong journey of learning and growth. Stay curious and open-minded. Attend workshops, seminars, or retreats whenever possible to continue expanding your knowledge and discovering new aspects of the practice.
Approach your yoga journey with a sense of joy, self-compassion, and an eagerness to learn. You WILL develop the confidence and expertise you seek. Enjoy the process and embrace the transformative power in your life!
Create a Marketable Niche
By the time you know a lot about yoga this way, you won’t be totally talentless, right? No one’s totally useless and neither are you. You’re special, in case nobody’s told you today, as Lizzo says.
The next step you should take is to create a marketable niche. Successful businesses and entrepreneurs have done exactly that by identifying an underserved or unexplored market and filling the gap with a unique offering. This is not as hard as it sounds and here’s what you do;
Identify your passion and expertise
- Make a list of your interests, hobbies, and areas of expertise.
- Evaluate which ones you are most knowledgeable or passionate about.
- Choose the top one or two areas to focus on for creating your niche.
Example:
Let's say you're passionate about fitness and have expertise in yoga. You decide to focus on creating a marketable niche by combining your passion for yoga with your knowledge of holistic health and wellness.
Research the market and competition
- Conduct online research to identify competitors in your chosen industry.
- Analyze what they offer, who the customers are, and how much they charge.
- Look for gaps or areas where you can provide something unique or better.
Example:
You research the yoga market and find that there are many general yoga studios, but no studios in your area specifically catering to pregnant women. You identify this as a potential gap in the market.
Decide who’s interested in you
- Create customer personas - think about who your ideal customers should be.
- Consider demographic information, interests, preferences, and pain points.
- Narrow down your target audience to a specific group that you can serve effectively.
Example:
This is your “target audience”. You decide, say, they are specifically pregnant women who are looking for safe and specialized yoga classes to support their physical and mental well-being during pregnancy.
Determine your unique value proposition
- Identify what sets you apart from your competitors.
- Highlight a specific feature, benefit, or approach that solves a problem or meets a need.
- Craft a clear and concise statement that communicates your unique value to your target audience.
Example:
Your unique value proposition is offering prenatal yoga classes that provide a supportive and nurturing environment, tailored to the specific needs of pregnant women. You highlight the benefits of prenatal yoga for relaxation, pain management, and preparing for childbirth.
Develop a focused marketing strategy
Where should you promote yourself? Instagram? TikTok? Rotten Twitter? Create a content plan to provide valuable information and engage with your audience.
Example:
You create a website and social media profiles dedicated to promoting your prenatal yoga classes. You share informative content about the benefits of prenatal yoga, pregnancy tips, and testimonials from satisfied clients. You also collaborate with local healthcare providers to expand your reach.
Test and refine your offering
Example:
You offer a free trial class to a small group of pregnant women and gather their feedback on class structure, duration, and overall experience. Based on their input, you adjust the class format and incorporate modifications that better suit their needs.
Build brand awareness and reputation
Example:
You attend local community events, health fairs, and pregnancy-related expos to showcase your expertise and provide demonstrations. You offer special promotions or discounts for first-time customers and encourage word-of-mouth referrals from satisfied clients.
Provide exceptional customer experiences
Example:
You create a warm and welcoming studio environment, offering personalized attention and modifications to accommodate each client's individual needs. You provide additional resources such as relaxation techniques, breathing exercises, and educational materials for pregnant women.
Adapt and evolve
Example:
As your business grows, you keep up with the latest research on prenatal health and wellness. You continually update your class offerings, incorporating new techniques or specialized workshops based on the evolving needs and interests of your target audience.
Hustling Hard and Smart
Now, you know you can try a little harder than you originally thought. It’s time to tap into your inner hustler and work ethic.
You can develop a strong work ethic. This means showing up consistently and putting in the effort even when the going gets tough. It's about pushing yourself beyond your limits and embracing the grind.
All the above that I’ve explained may be so overwhelming for sure. So break down your tasks into smaller manageable chunks. Take baby steps towards your goals rather than trying to tackle everything at once. By doing so, you'll stay focused and motivated without feeling overwhelmed by the enormity of your journey.
Building Connections
Remember that old saying "It's not what you know but who you know"?
Well, there might be some truth to it! Join online communities where like-minded people gather. Engage in conversations, ask questions, and share your thoughts.
Not everyone is an expert who “knows it all” - there are tons of beginners just like you too, who are desperate to get somewhere and become “somebody”.
You never know who might be able to offer guidance or provide opportunities that can help propel your career forward. Don't be afraid to reach out directly - send personalized emails or direct messages introducing yourself and expressing interest in collaborating on projects or learning from their expertise. Building relationships takes time but can lead to valuable partnerships down the line.
But don’t forget to help others too - there may not be so much you can do from the start, but you will soon learn some good, valuable lessons. So you can start sharing what you know with brand-new beginners. Networking isn't just about taking; it's also about giving back. Offer support, advice, or assistance whenever possible because building genuine connections is a two-way street.
Overcoming Self-Doubt and Fear
Meh, it’s all on paper, all theoretical, not practical. It’s easier said than done. Totally unrealistic. I cannot reach out to people and learn so much stuff like that.
If you still feel like a piece of rotten eggplant, guess what? You're not alone! Many of us have experienced self-doubt and fear at some point in our lives.
But here's the thing – those feelings don't have to define us. We can overcome them and become confident, resilient beings. How, you ask? Well, let me share some tips with you.
First off, building confidence is all about taking small steps outside of your comfort zone. Start by setting achievable goals that push you just a little bit beyond what feels safe. Maybe it's signing up for a public speaking class or joining a community group where you can meet new people.
Developing resilience means embracing failure as a learning opportunity. Yes, I said it – failure is not the end of the world! It's actually an essential part of growth. So when things don't go according to plan (and they often won't), remind yourself that setbacks are just stepping stones on your journey toward success.
So remember - you can overcome self-doubt and fear over time. Start to believe in yourself, embrace failure as part of the process, seek help when needed, take small steps toward your goals...and before long, you'll realize that being a talentless blob was just a temporary state on your path to greatness!
Good article with positive heads-up. For many years my mom was believing she was talentless but as a single mother she was working day & night, raising me without receiving any social support. She made me realize that no one was talentless but everyone had something to offer that no one else could. I remember this from day 1 of my marketing career.
Thanks for your comment Roger, I agree with you 100%;
Any business man, woman, politician, musician, etc are all trying to become famous but most of them are talentless failing to get rich and famous. Becoming a good member of a community is a great gift. If you are interested kindly contact me.
Yeah I feel like a piece of rotten veg all the time nowadays. I have tried your methods for a few years now, Ray, I don’t know if you own this site but I was in & out of the hospital for a year and my affiliate income dropped to almost nothing. I have been trying to rebuild my career but now things are much more competitive tho I still find new buyers I definitely have to overcome self doubts.
Hi Syed, good to hear from you. Yes, I’m still here. Sorry to hear that you’ve been poorly. If there’s anything I can help, give me a shout at any time. Thanks for your comment. All the best!
