As a student, you may be looking for ways to make some extra money. With the internet, there are endless possibilities. I have indicated below some of the best ways for students to make money using the internet. Also they apply to stay at home moms to make some extra income. It might not be as much but with time it can be helpful in one way or the other. There are other ways that I might not have included in this post and readers are welcome to add them below this post. I have also written a similar post the other day (5 Top Ways of Working Home Online) which will also apply to students. The tasks included below can rake in an income of over $100 per day if done in the right direction.
From freelancing to online surveys and more, there are plenty of opportunities to earn some extra cash. So if you’re looking for some ideas, read on!
1. Searching the Web and Getting Paid
Searching the web is something students and those without a busy working schedule can do at any given time. It can be through their Smartphones or sometimes it can be through computers. There are websites that will pay you to do exactly these kinds of tasks. Qmee gives you a platform where you can earn up to $100 just searching the web and clicking on offers.
You also have the flexibility of searching on a wide range or browsers including Google, Yahoo, Bing and many others. You can decide to cash out the revenue earned via your paypal account or you can decide to donate to charity.
2. Online Market Trading
Online market trading is also another modern that not only students but also many other people are exploiting when it comes to making that extra buck. If interested, it can be as smooth. You do not need to have the experience of Wall Street traders.
You can sign up with eToro that at the time of this post has over 8 million users. The platform has been featured on a BBC 2 documentary "Traders: Millions by the Minute" at only recently it has began offering sponsorships to premier league football clubs.
The thing that is great about this platform is the fact that you do not have to make your trading decisions. It has a copy trader feature that gives you the option of copying investments made by top performing traders.
I would however like to point out that trading online involves a huge risk. It has been estimated that 65%-80.6% of retail investors lose their investments. If you are not ready to take such a huge risk then I would highly advice against taking this route.

3. Start Your Own Website
Starting a website can be easy as ABC. There are platforms where you can start a website with absolutely no investment at all. Anyone can do it. Choose your niche and grow your brand. If you are promoting a particular product, choose your target audience.
Although starting a website is easy, monetizing is something else. It takes certain knowledge and skill in order to drive organic traffic to your site. You can use paid advertisements but again if you don't have a knowledge in keywords, you could waste your money instead of earning it.
Sometimes it might take a while before you earn an income from Google advertising, but as you wait create your own products for sale on this website. In order to maximize your income, create a number of websites targeting different niches, although it will cost you for domain purchases.
Also include a blogging page where you can interact with your traffic on a regular basis. It is also important to create social media accounts for the website and join relevant communities. As much as it helps in generating leads to your websites, it is also effective in connecting with your followers.

5. Answer Online Surveys
You may have heard about online surveys as a way to make some extra income, but there's more demand for students other than employees. There are many survey companies such as Swagbucks, Clixsense, GrabPoints, etc. A lot of companies are always looking for feedback from consumers, and they’re willing to pay for it.
One thing to keep in mind is that you won’t get rich quick by taking online surveys. But if you’re looking for some extra pocket money, it can be a great way to earn some cash. And, since there are so many different companies out there looking for feedback, you can usually find a good selection of surveys to choose from.
To get started, just sign up with a few reputable survey companies and start taking surveys. Be sure to read each company’s privacy policy so you know how your personal information will be used. Also, make sure you only take surveys from companies that you trust – you don’t want to waste your time on scams.

11. Participating in online mock juries
Participating in online mock juries can indeed provide a means for students to make money on the internet. However, the process may not be as straightforward or lucrative. Online mock juries assist attorneys in preparing for real cases by offering feedback on various aspects of the cases. Nonetheless, several factors could impact the ease and profitability of such an endeavor for students.
- Firstly, the availability of mock jury opportunities might be sporadic, and the competition can be high, making it a less reliable source of income.
- Secondly, each case can be time-consuming as one needs to review all the materials provided, which might include legal documents, witness statements, and other evidence before providing well-thought-out feedback. This time investment might not always correlate with the compensation provided, which may not be substantial.
- Additionally, the eligibility criteria might be strict, and not all students might qualify to participate in every case. The geographic location, demographic attributes, and personal beliefs could all impact eligibility. This potentially further reduces the chances of participating and earning through online mock juries.
The pay for participating in online mock juries can vary widely, usually ranging from $10 to $100 per case, depending on the complexity and the time required. Some mock jury websites might offer higher compensation for more complicated or time-consuming cases. However, the overall earning potential might not be high enough to constitute a significant source of income, especially when compared to other online money-making opportunities available to students.
12. Becoming a virtual assistant
There are many ways for students to make money on the internet, but one of the most popular and in-demand ways is by becoming a virtual assistant. Virtual assistants (VAs) help businesses with a variety of tasks, including customer service, social media management, data entry, and more.
The great thing about becoming a VA is that you can often do it completely online from the comfort of your own home. Plus, as a student, you may have some extra time outside of class and homework to take on additional clients and work more hours if you need or want to.
So how do you get started as a virtual assistant? First, create a list of services you’re willing to offer and then start reaching out to businesses or entrepreneurs that might need help in those areas. You can also join online platforms or directories that connect VAs with clients (like Upwork or Fiverr). Once you build up a portfolio of happy clients, word will start to spread and you’ll have more work than you know what to do with!
13. Selling used books online
There are a few different ways to sell used books online. The most popular platforms are Amazon, eBay, and Half Price Books.
To sell on Amazon, simply create a seller account and list your books. You can choose to ship the books yourself or use Amazon's Fulfillment by Amazon program. Once your book sells, Amazon will take a cut of the proceeds as a selling fee.
To sell on eBay, create an account and list your books with a description and pictures. You'll need to set up payment options and shipping details. Once your book sells, you'll pay eBay a small listing fee as well as a final value fee which is based on the total sale price.
Half Price Books is an online marketplace specifically for selling used books. To sell on Half Price Books, create an account and list your books with a description and price. When your book sells, Half Price Books will take a cut of the sale as a commission fee.
14. Becoming an online retailer
There are many ways for students to make money on the internet, but one of the most popular and profitable ways is to become an online retailer. Online retailing is a great way for students to make money because it requires little start-up capital, can be done from anywhere in the world, and has low overhead costs.
To become an online retailer, students first need to find a niche market that they can serve. Once they have found a niche, they need to find suppliers who can provide them with products at wholesale prices. Once they have found reliable suppliers, students need to create an online store and start marketing their products.
15. Becoming a freelance writer
One of the most popular and potentially lucrative options is freelance writing. As a freelance writer, you can work on your own schedule and choose projects that interest you.
To get started, you'll need to create a portfolio of your work. This can be done by setting up a blog and sharing your articles there, or by creating an online portfolio on a site like Upwork. Once you have a few samples of your work, you can start applying for jobs.
There are a number of different avenues you can pursue when looking for freelance writing work. You can search job boards like Pro-blogger and Freelancer, or contact companies directly and pitch them your services.
If you're just getting started, it's important to build up a strong body of work before expecting to land high-paying clients. Once you've established yourself as a competent writer, though, there's no limit to how much money you can earn from freelancing!
16. Selling handmade crafts
Creating handmade crafts requires a specific skill set and a certain level of originality. Not everyone possesses the knack for crafting unique items that hold market value.
The allure of handmade crafts lies in their uniqueness and the craftsmanship that goes into creating each piece. However, acquiring these crafting skills can be a long and sometimes challenging process, often requiring formal training or extensive self-taught practice.
Market Research
Understanding the market is a fundamental aspect of selling handmade crafts. Researching what types of crafts are in demand, which age groups or demographics are most likely to purchase, and what price points are realistic is vital for success. Without a solid understanding of market dynamics, there’s a risk of creating products that don’t meet consumer needs or desires.
Product Quality and Pricing
Maintaining a high-quality standard for your crafts is necessary to build and sustain a customer base. The pricing needs to reflect the quality and the time invested in creating the crafts. However, pricing can be a tricky aspect as overpricing might alienate potential buyers, while underpricing could lead to losses or undervalue your work.
Marketing and Visibility
Marketing handmade crafts is often seen as a significant hurdle by artisans. Without the right marketing strategies, even the most beautiful, high-quality crafts can go unnoticed. Utilizing social media platforms, creating an attractive online storefront, and perhaps engaging in local craft fairs or markets are some ways to increase visibility. Moreover, storytelling and sharing the process of creating the crafts can create a connection with potential buyers, thus enhancing marketing efforts.
Customer Engagement and Feedback
Engaging with customers and collecting feedback is instrumental for continuous improvement and building a loyal customer base. Positive reviews and word-of-mouth referrals are incredibly beneficial for a small crafting business. Moreover, addressing negative feedback with professionalism and a willingness to improve can also contribute to building a positive brand image.
Consistency and Adaptation
Maintaining a consistent supply of products and perhaps introducing new items based on seasonal trends or customer feedback is necessary to keep the interest alive. Being adaptable and willing to tweak designs or processes based on what’s working and what’s not is also part of evolving as a crafts seller.
Financial Management
Crafting can be a costly endeavor with expenses for materials, tools, and marketing efforts. Effective financial management and budgeting are necessary to ensure that the revenues generated from sales can cover the costs and yield a profit. Being adept at managing finances and perhaps reinvesting profits into the business can lead to growth over time.
Selling handmade crafts involves a blend of creative skills, market understanding, marketing savvy, and financial management. Each of these aspects requires attention and effort to establish and sustain a successful handmade crafts business.
17. Participating in online focus groups
There are a number of ways for students to make money on the internet, but one popular way is by participating in online focus groups. Focus groups are a great way for students to voice their opinions and get paid for it.
To find online focus groups, simply search Google or your favorite search engine. You can also check out websites like Craigslist and sign up for email alerts when new focus groups are posted in your area.
When you participate in a focus group, you will be asked to give your opinion on a variety of topics. These topics can range from what you think of a new product to your thoughts on current events. Focus groups typically last around 1-2 hours, and you will be paid for your participation.
So if you’re looking for a way to make some extra money, consider participating in online focus groups!
Online retailing can be a very profitable business for students who are willing to put in the work. With a little effort, students can build successful online stores that generate significant income.
I have not exhausted all the methods of earning an extra income, and readers are welcome to make suggestions or more other ways. Some people have suggested that online surveys are also another way of making money but with my years of trying, I have not tried on the same.
I have also been asked to highlight on cryptocurrencies trading, but I would suggest that one does a great research before involving themselves in the ventures. Some have made money of cryptocurrencies while others have incurred losses.
It is also important to indicate that the current market is not stable and it paints a negative picture of a market to invest in.

Hope the massage is clear to the youth. If you have an idea and you don’t have financial how can you start?
Hello, thank you for your comment. That’s a million dollar question, because we all have ideas and ambitions but cannot necessarily materialize them due to the lack of capital. It all depends what your ‘idea’ is and the scale of it too.
The first thing youths need to work on is to build trust relationships with as many people – people around them in real life as well as across social media networks. My advice to youths would be (1) Be honest and sincere towards people, towards your passion and goals. (2) Find your mentor and ask for advice, but more importantly (3) Always help others, never forget to help people!
A crowdfunding is probably the best way to finance – but without gaining the trust first it will be extremely hard to make it a success.
hello do you have a website or app that earns free and reputable money, if you send it to me, thank you
Hi, thanks for your comment. Unfortunately there’s never such thing that earns “free money”. Just like working offline, you need to work to earn online too. You may have seen some programs who claim to make money for you…they’re all scams. Any more questions don’t hesitate to get back to us.
